Use Cases

Quick Plugin Testing

  1. Write blueprint with plugin to test
  2. Run npx @wp-playground/cli server --blueprint=./test-blueprint.json
  3. Test in browser
  4. Close when done (no cleanup needed)

Theme Preview

  1. Mount local theme directory
  2. Make changes
  3. See instant updates in browser
  4. No server restart needed

Client Demos

  1. Create blueprint with client's preferred setup
  2. Share URL with blueprint parameter
  3. Client sees instant demo
  4. No hosting required

Plugin Development

  1. Use --auto-mount to mount current directory
  2. Changes reflect immediately
  3. Debug with browser tools
  4. Export snapshot for sharing

Limitations

  • Ephemeral: Data lost when browser closes (unless exported)
  • Performance: Slower than native PHP (runs in WebAssembly)
  • Networking: Limited external HTTP requests
  • File Storage: Browser storage limits apply
  • No Email: Email sending not supported
  • No Cron: WP-Cron runs on page load only
