Agent Skills: SEO

Search demand, buyer-stage intent, and ranking reality for the strategy call — what people actually search, what they want at each stage, and what it honestly takes to be found in both classic search and AI answers. TRIGGER when the brief involves organic search demand, keyword intent by buyer stage, ranking feasibility, on-page essentials, or getting cited by AI search. DO NOT TRIGGER for paid search angles (advertising), broader positioning and channel choice (marketing), or gathering customer language (research).

SEO

What this advisor supplies: the search reality the strategy call needs — which demand is real and reachable, what searchers at each stage actually want, and what it honestly takes to be found, in both classic search and AI-generated answers. The job is a feasibility read, not a twelve-month plan.

Demand and intent by buyer stage

Search demand maps to where the buyer is. The modifiers reveal the stage, and the stage dictates the intent the page must satisfy:

  • Awareness — "what is," "how to," "guide to." They want to understand the problem, not buy. Educational content matches.
  • Consideration — "best," "top," "vs," "alternatives." They're comparing. Comparison and alternative pages match.
  • Decision — "pricing," "reviews," "demo," "trial." They're close. Product, pricing, and proof pages match.
  • Implementation — "templates," "examples," "tutorial," "setup." Already a user or already committed. Practical how-to matches.

This search funnel (Awareness/Consideration/Decision/Implementation) is the buyer's search journey — distinct from the reader-awareness model the copywriting skill owns. Keep them separate when handing the chief a read.

Match the page to the intent exactly. A sales page ranked for a "how to" query converts no one and, because it doesn't satisfy the searcher, ranks for nothing.

Ranking reality

The honest read for a solo founder, not the trick list:

  • You rank by deserving to. Search rewards content that satisfies the intent better than what's already there — real depth, first-hand experience, original information. No on-page trick beats deserving the spot.
  • Foundations are table stakes. The page has to be crawlable, indexable, fast, and sound on mobile, or nothing above matters. These are pass/fail, not optimizations.
  • SEO is a 6–12 month marathon. It compounds for years once it works and pays nothing for months. For a solo founder it's a long-game bet, not a launch channel.
  • Pick winnable demand. Against an entrenched competitor you won't rank for the head term early. Win the specific, lower-competition long-tail where intent is high and the giants are thin — [problem] for [specific role] — and build topical authority outward from there.

AI search reality

More search now resolves inside AI answers — AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity — and the rules differ:

  • Classic search gets you ranked; AI search gets you cited. A well-structured page can be cited even when it ranks on page two, because AI selects on quality and structure, not position alone.
  • Structure for extraction. Lead each section with a direct answer; keep the key answer tight enough to stand on its own; use headings that match how people phrase the question; use a table for a comparison. AI extracts passages, not whole pages.
  • Authority earns citations. Cite sources, include specific statistics with dates, attribute claims to named experts. The largest measured citation boosts come from citing sources and adding statistics; keyword stuffing actively hurts.
  • Presence beyond your own site. AI cites where you appear — Reddit, Wikipedia, review sites — often more than your own pages. Authentic third-party presence compounds.
  • Write for people, organize for clarity. That one default satisfies both Google, which treats AI-only content as spam, and the other engines. Don't write a separate version for the machines.

What good SEO judgment hands over

A feasibility read: which search demand is real and reachable at the product's stage, what intent the copy has to match by buyer stage, the on-page essentials, and where AI-search citation is worth pursuing — so the chief bets on search demand that can actually be won.
